Subject: Weather Alert: Excessive Heat Warning

Date: 3/16/26

Dear Campus Community,

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Los Angeles area from 10 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026 through 8 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026. The NWS advisory notes that temperatures will approach or exceed 100 degrees with the potential high risk of heat illness.

Campus safety and your wellbeing are our top priorities. While the university will remain open and continue normal operations, we are closely monitoring conditions, including weather, wind and impacts to the campus. We encourage you to monitor local conditions.

During hot weather, remember to:

  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
  • Limit outdoor activities when possible.
  • If you’re outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Consider pet safety. If they are outside, make sure they have plenty of cool water and access to comfortable shade.
  • Heat waves may cause you to lose power. Visit SCE for general updates and helpful information on power shutoffs.

Faculty and Staff

Employees should follow their normal schedule and attendance procedures. Individuals may reach out to their managers if they need supportive resources. Staff whose work requires them to work outdoors should consult with their manager for additional information.
